ON WINDOWS BOXES, APPLY [UNBLOCK] TO WOWTRILOGY_CLIENT.ZIP PROPERTIES BEFORE EXTRACTION

this document is mostly written for linux with nvidia gpu's. accurate information for linux is sparse and often deprecated, whereas windows documentation is
ubiquitous. since simply running wow under wine is optimal on a kubuntu (24.04.3) os, most information will also apply to windows anyway. kubuntu 24.04 uses the x11
desktop, and this document will eventually be updated for 26.04 and the wayland desktop.

sudo apt update
sudo kubuntu-driver-manager
	ignore cli errors; it's a known bug they're not likely to fix
	select newest nvidia driver and apply
reboot
sudo prime-select nvidia
sudo apt install --install-recommends libnvidia-extra-<590 for 20** and newer gpu's; 580 for 10** gpu's>:i386 lutris steam -y
	lutris and steam are optional but install required libraries for other games
reboot
cd path/to/your/client/folder
sudo chown -R yourusername:yourusername yourclientfolder
cd yourclientfolder
wine WoW

this is a chromiecraft 3.3.5a enus client @ chromiecraft.com/en/downloads/ with the following modifications:

	replace 32-bit d3d9.dll with 32-bit vulkan (dxvk) @ github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/releases
	
	apply laa flag @ techpowerup.com/forums/threads/large-address-aware.112556/
	
	apply hex edit for mouse glitch >250hz polling rate @ forum.warmane.com/showthread.php?t=474289
	
	disable cache - restore default caching by deleting /cache/wdb
	
	enable taintLog and scriptProfile
	
		script profiling is nice but does use memory that you may prefer to free up for maximum performance e.g. in raids, and can be disabled either by
		deleting the relevant line in wtf/config.wtf or in-game via /console scriptProfile 0 followed by /reload
		
	add /interface/icons/ and /data/interface/icons/ since wine inexplicably looks for these folders
	
	add data/enus/patch-enus-m.mpq and patch-en-us-n.mpq (vanilla, tbc, and custom maps) @ github.com/Trimitor/WDM-patch
	
	add interface/addons/*

this client will not display custom content (e.g. goblin/worgen player characters) on other servers without the appropriate addons and/or patches properly installed

how to disable core parking on windows 10/11:

	open an elevated terminal and enter powercfg /s SCHEME_MIN
	select high-performance power setting @ windows mobility center; configure @ control panel
	
		note that some bios and software settings will override this and preserve core parking
	
windows network adapter optimization - !!! DO NOT FUCK WITH THESE SETTINGS UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED !!!
